H.E.A.L. (Honour Elevate And Love) Her Podcast
I'm Makini Smith!
After going through a divorce, my sister passing away, experiencing narcissistic abuse, and some significant health scares, I realized through sharing my story that I wasn't alone in my suffering...suffering; subjective distress generated by the experience of being out of balance.
In a deep dive to holistically heal mind, body and soul, is where I discovered peace, clarity and connection.
It is impossible to be truly wise without some real-life hardship. And we cannot develop post-traumatic wisdom without making it through and, most importantly, through it together.
Social connection builds resilience, and resilience helps create post-traumatic wisdom, and that wisdom leads to hope. Hope for you and others witnessing and participating in your healing and for your community.
A healthy community is a healing community, and a healing community is full of hope because it has seen its own people weather--survive and thrive.

Thursday Mar 28, 2024
Thursday Mar 28, 2024
Colby Sharma LL.B. is a leading expert focused on helping organizations unlock greater resiliency in their teams to produce great work and master deep change.
He is a law graduate and author, whose father Robin Sharma is one of the world’s best-selling authors and motivational speakers (“The 5 AM Club,“ “The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari”).
Colby Sharma is the bestselling author of The Curveball. The book serves as a metaphor for the unexpected challenges, like COVID-19, that life throws at us. It narrates the remarkable journey of an individual facing difficulties, who, through timeless wisdom and daily strategies, achieved a significant life transformation. Colby has taken a page from his dad by offering the reader valuable time-tested, tried and true life hacks that are needed now more than ever. It’s a book for those who want to turn fear into fuel, adversity into opportunity and hardship into hope.
Colby’s clients include leading financial institutions such as The Bank of Nova Scotia and Manulife Financial.
Colby Sharma is known for his work in helping organizations foster resilience within their teams. His perspective on resilience and overcoming adversity is deeply informed by his personal experiences and the challenges he has faced.
Drawing inspiration from his father, motivational speaker Robin Sharma, Colby advocates for transforming fear into motivation, adversity into opportunity, and hardship into hope. He emphasizes the importance of detaching oneself from failure, ensuring setbacks don't define one's identity, and embracing inner reflection and adaptability as crucial strategies to overcome adversity.
Colby believes that while societal influences and surroundings can shape us, ultimately, individuals hold the power to choose how they respond to trauma and challenges. His approach to resilience involves acknowledging past hardships, learning from them, and actively striving for personal growth and transformation.
Outline:
00:02:22 - Colby Sharma's Inspirational SpeakingColby Sharma discusses how his speaking on resilience can benefit organizations to master change and produce great work. He helps teams unlock greater resilience to navigate challenges like COVID-19 and achieve significant life transformations by turning adversity into opportunity and hardship into hope. His speaking engagements offer valuable strategies to help individuals and organizations bounce back from stress, respond to loss, and thrive in the face of change, ultimately leading to post-traumatic growth and a healthier, more hopeful community.
00:08:51 - Support Systems and Family InfluenceColby Sharma emphasizes the importance of family, friends, and support systems in personal growth and resilience. He is grateful for the role his parents and friends have played in instilling confidence, providing emotional support, and fostering joy in his life. Surrounding oneself with supportive individuals who understand and appreciate individual strengths can help navigate challenges, embrace resilience, and thrive in one's unique journey.
00:14:31 - Resilience and Overcoming AdversityResilience is the ability to bounce back from challenges, explored in the podcast through discussions on overcoming adversity and finding hope in difficult situations. Colby Sharma emphasizes responding to stressors by reframing them as opportunities for growth, highlighting the significance of resilience in navigating the uncertainties of the post-pandemic world. Makini Smith shares her personal journey of resilience, showcasing how stillness and intentional responses can lead to personal and professional growth even amidst challenging circumstances.
00:18:06 - Perspective and Resilience ToolsColby Sharma discusses the importance of responding rather than reacting to challenges and suggests using the PPE acronym - Permanence, Perspective, and Experience - to cultivate resilience. By detaching from failure, embracing adversity, and understanding that tough situations are temporary, individuals can develop a resilient mindset and navigate through difficult times with grace and strength. Sharma also highlights the significance of surrounding oneself with a supportive community to aid in overcoming adversity and fostering personal growth.
00:26:09 - Detaching from Failure and Embracing AdversityDetaching from failure, embracing adversity, and knowing that tough times will pass are essential beliefs that help individuals navigate challenges and setbacks. By detaching from failure, individuals can prevent it from defining them and instead focus on bouncing back from stress and loss. Embracing adversity allows for post traumatic growth and the opportunity to repurpose energies in different ways, leading to personal and professional development. Understanding that tough times will pass enables individuals to navigate through hardships with resilience and agency, ultimately shaping their identity and response to adversity.
00:38:52 - Personal ConsistencyColby Sharma emphasizes the significance of personal consistency by discussing how he shows up for himself every day, regardless of the circumstances, by trying new things and staying active in different exercise routines. Despite challenges like returning to football after a long break and stepping out of his comfort zone, Sharma's commitment to consistency in exercise and self-improvement is clear. His dedication to personal growth and resilience sets a strong example of the benefits of maintaining consistency in daily life.
