H.E.A.L. (Honour Elevate And Love) Her Podcast
I'm Makini Smith!
After going through a divorce, my sister passing away, experiencing narcissistic abuse, and some significant health scares, I realized through sharing my story that I wasn't alone in my suffering...suffering; subjective distress generated by the experience of being out of balance.
In a deep dive to holistically heal mind, body and soul, is where I discovered peace, clarity and connection.
It is impossible to be truly wise without some real-life hardship. And we cannot develop post-traumatic wisdom without making it through and, most importantly, through it together.
Social connection builds resilience, and resilience helps create post-traumatic wisdom, and that wisdom leads to hope. Hope for you and others witnessing and participating in your healing and for your community.
A healthy community is a healing community, and a healing community is full of hope because it has seen its own people weather--survive and thrive.

Sunnie McFadden-Curtis ”Separated Families”
Thursday Jul 28, 2022
Thursday Jul 28, 2022
In this week's episode of the A Walk In My Stilettos podcast, I bring you another inspiring story of resilience.
Sunnie McFadden-Curtis is an Award-Winning Filmmaker & Social Advocate for Women & Children.
Her documentary BROKEN VOWS: Stories of Separation takes you into the lives of several women to learn more about the process of navigating a separation. This film follows the socially conscious producer’s previous projects: Bullying: A Culture of Silence, Cyber Bullying: Where Are We Going Wrong? & Shane r u there?
With her outspoken advocacy for the disenfranchised, she was invited to be part of the campaign 24/7. 24/7 gave Sunnie internationally speaking status on anti-bullying education to help make schools safer for children and teens.
Sunnie recognized she needed to get involved in the political arena to continue to make real change in anti-bullying education which took her from Queen’s Park, Toronto all the way to the US Senate. She was instrumental in having a resolution introduced and passed to officially recognize the 3rd week of November as “Bullying Awareness & Prevention Week” across Ontario. The same year Sunnie and her son Brennan were invited by the United States Senate to participate in roundtable discussions about ways to make schools safer through anti-bullying education.
Tune in to hear how she navigated separation and how you can too!
We discussed:
🎙how her son’s bullying experience inspired her to make a documentary on bullying, get a bill passed and become an advocate within the schools
🎙Why she chose to cover separation in a marriage vs divorce for the second documentary
🎙leaving a legacy and making an impact
🎙and much more...
